Nostalgic Toys from Our Childhood and the Reasons They Were Discontinued

#13: Midge

Midge is another Barbie doll that gained popularity recently with the Barbie movie, but how many of you remember playing with this doll growing up? The Midge Barbie doll dates back to 1963 when she was first introduced as Barbie’s best friend and later as a pregnant version of the character. However, the latter version of Midge faced controversy and was eventually discontinued in 2003.

The pregnant Midge doll, which came with a detachable belly containing a baby, drew criticism from some parents and advocacy groups who felt it was inappropriate for children and sent the wrong message. Mattel decided to discontinue the pregnant Midge doll due to concerns about the doll’s reception and its potential to generate negative publicity.
