She entered feature films in the 1965 Civil War drama Shenandoah, playing Ann Anderson opposite established Hollywood star James Stewart. The role moved her from episodic television into a major studio production.

Although she was part of a large ensemble, the film allowed her to demonstrate that she could hold her own on the big screen. More supporting roles followed, but one psychological thriller would soon connect her with an influential admirer.
