In 1992, he starred in and produced The Bodyguard, playing former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer opposite Whitney Houston as superstar singer Rachel Marron. The film marked Houston’s first movie role, and Costner strongly supported casting her, even though she was known primarily as a music icon.
