#2: He Grows Up in Queens in an Irish American Catholic Family
He spent much of his childhood in Queens, New York, growing up in an Irish American Catholic household. His father worked as a lawyer, and the family environment combined strong religious traditions with the everyday experiences of life in a working and middle-class New York neighborhood.

The community around him reflected the ethnic and cultural mix common in New York during the early twentieth century. Catholic schools, neighborhood friendships, and family expectations helped shape the environment in which he grew up during the years before his future acting career began.
