The States Where Jobs Are Disappearing and Where They’re Moving to Instead

South Carolina had plenty of job movement, even though losses came in slightly higher than gains. New jobs can come from manufacturing, auto plants, aerospace, ports, tourism, health care, construction, and the growth around cities like Charleston, Greenville, and Columbia.

But jobs are also disappearing as businesses deal with higher costs, slower demand, or staffing changes. Some factory, retail, restaurant, and seasonal tourism jobs can shrink when companies cut back. So while South Carolina is still creating work, the losses had a small edge here.
