#47: Iowa
Jobs Gained: 4.8%
Jobs Lost: 5.9%
Iowa had a lower job-gain rate than many other states, though new work was still being created. Jobs can come from agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, health care, education, insurance, and local businesses serving towns and cities across the state.

However, losses were much higher than gains. Some rural areas have fewer new employers, and farms, factories, and small businesses can cut back when costs rise or demand slows. Iowa’s quarter looked more about jobs disappearing than jobs being created.
