The Unlucky Lives of the Kennedy Family

Kathleen’s marriage to William Cavendish, a Protestant aristocrat, deeply upset her devout Catholic family. Her mother, Rose, refused to attend the wedding, viewing it as a betrayal of faith. Although her father later softened, Kick’s choice created a lasting distance between her and much of the Kennedy household.

After her husband’s death, she returned to Europe but remained estranged from her family, seeking the freedom and companionship she had once found there. Her independence was admired by friends but quietly criticized at home. This growing divide left her increasingly isolated in the years leading up to her tragic accident.
